Solar cells with efficiencies nearly 3 times those of today’s models are only a few years away. A University of Delaware solar team set a record for solar efficiency of 42.8%, compared with today’s 17% efficient models that are used to power homes. The team’s research yielded a $100 million deal with DuPont to get the new technology in production by 2010.
